I hope someone may have the easy answer to the problem I am trying to solve.
I hate the phrase "back in the day "
But, back in the day, when we had proper petrol
I seem to remember a small length of rubber tube slipped over the main fuel tap to form a "weir" which created a small reserve, enough to get you to the next garage.
I am in the process of fitting a new tank and taps to my commando, and both main and reserve taps come without any tube.
Every piece of ethanol resistant tube that I have managed to beg steal or borrow, including copper tube that fits over the internal filter is too thick to go through the holes in the tank where the taps screw into.
Any tips would be appreciated,
Or is it just a case that there is now no such thing as a reserve on the Commando.

Have a close look at your new main tap, It should have the stand pipe within the filter itself. The reserve tap has no stand pipe. You could fit a sleeve of thin wall brass over the filter or if your careful, roll and soldered a sleeve out of tin plate to do the job
