Hi Guys,
I have acquired a barrel (std. bore) with badly damaged skirts. ie. large chunks missing!
Presumably it could be bored/sleeved and the rod cut-outs re-machined but would it be worth the expense?
I don't need this as a back-up cylinder (hopefully) so I'm not sure whether to keep it, or weigh it in.
Thoughts please,
Andy

I,ve just fitted RGM liners to a 750 block, still to bore/hone back to std size (this block had damaged skirts as it had been bored to plus 60 and the previous machine shop had broken the skirt).
Trying to get hold of a decent 750 block that is under plus 20 is like finding rock horse shite. Even if you do find one, the money that people want is getting silly. The RGM liners at £32 each, plus VAT are a bargain. The cost of getting a block machined, liners fitted and bored/honed back to std is approximately 2.5 times a normal bore and hone job (bore/hone block to liner size, fit liners, bore/hone out to std) Say its £50 a pot to bore and hone that comes to £250 to fit liners and finish bore/hone.A pair of liners at £76.80 and a pair of pistons at £100 makes it just over £426 to get the block fit for service.
Weighing it in will get you next to nothing, The local metal recycler that i deal with has said 'don,t bring any more ferrous stuff' 'why is that?' said I. 'Because they have found a huge iron ore deposit in Australia, the bottom has fallen out of the ferrous scrap market'
You will get more selling it 'for overhaul'
