Model 19 Pushrods

Forums

I an helping my brother-in-law with the rebuild of what is effectively a late 30s Model 19 engine. A bit of a hybrid - the crankcases are from a 40s ES2 but the crankshaft and cylinder barrel are from the 30s (Model 19 dropped from the catalogue during the 40s). The pushrods are not straight and need to be replaced. It should be possible for us to retain the steel end fittings and make up new aluminium rods.

Does anyone have construction details for the rods, specifically: Length, Material, Solid/Tubular?

We are guessing that an aluminium alloy eg Dural would be appropriate for this application, and possibly less likely to bend.

The existing rods are tubular. That makes sense in terms of reducing reciprocating mass. Is it also necessary for tappet lubrication (there is no positive oil feed to the rocker box)?

Thanks, Ian McD
