Norton 500t - push rod tube seals

Forums

I am new to 500t ownership and my bike has an oil leak from the front lower push rod tube seal.  Now on the ES2 I would just remove the rocker box, but I have read somewhere that the engine is such a tight fit in the frame that the only way to do it is to remove the head and Rocker box as one.  Is this correct? any tips on doing it?

Thanks

My ES2 has a modified fram with little room and that’s how I do it, it’s pretty easy to undo the 4 sleeve nuts (after taking the exhaust off) you can then lift the head to get the tubes and push rods out. Not sure if it’s the right way but it works. Access to the nuts is a bit tight so you might need a thin spanner. I then cleaned up the head stud threads and nuts so they thread on easily and used a strip of rubber around the nuts to spin them on quickly rather than doing them up one flat at a time! Might not be the official method but it works!

Thanks Dan, I thing the ES2's do not use a head gasket whereas the 500t does.  I was unsure whether I would have ro remove the head and put a new gasket on but guess from your reply I will just raise and hopefully the gasket will reseal.

Many ES2s have gaskets, although I have lapped my head so I don’t need one, I assume you can do that on a 500T alternatively a copper gasket is reusable after it’s been reannealed.  I guess it is possible that you could loosen the rocker box sufficiently but only looking would confirm that!
