Re: advance retard

If you pull the outer cable upwards you'll see the inner has a nipple on the end that engages with the mushroom headed part that turns the cam ring. You should be able to slide this out sideways. Alternatively, if you're stripping it anyway, take the points off and you'll find the cam has a circlip in front of it. Remove this and the cam will come out to the front and the mushroom headed part can be withdrawn.

Hi John, screw the cable fitting back into the magneto. Go to the advance/retard control on the handlebar and remove the centre screw to release the lever. Disengage the cable from the clamp assembly and lever. That should now give enough slack on the cable to allow the cable fitting to be unscrewed from the magneto body, and for the nipple at that end to be disengaged.
