Petrol tap for a 1960 99

Forums

Hi

Has anyone got a source for a usable petrol tap or a replacement insert ie the cork and brass forked end and locating screw for a Dommie 99?

The one I have has a shrunken cork and hence leaks and the screw is missing that locates the tap when you turn it on or off.

Thanks

Jim

Hello yes this is offend the case with this type tap ,you need to take out the cork and soak it in petrol ,it should swell up then you can put it back in , alternative is Ebay for a new one , Yours AJD

Get hold of some Viton rubber sheet of the correct thickness and make your own 'corks'. Don't be tempted to use any old rubber as it will swell in petrol, even more so in ethanol based formulations. At least one of the suppliers who travels to the major shows offers Viton on his stall.

Jim.

Boil the corks in water then they will swell or make your self new ones using the modern wine bottle corks. They are shiny and smooth and are not really corks. I have used these -leak free. It is some time ago but I think I sliced them up to the right length then cut them with hole punch and put a very fine drill through the centre.

Hope this helps. At least it will not cost any thing to try.

Cheers Mick
