Oil In Airbox

I am a little confused with some of thereplies in the other "Oil In Airbox" message.

I too have an April 2015 961 Sport. During early miles there was no oil coming out of the air box drain pipe but later it did develop but was never a huge amount.

Karen at Norton arranged for a modification kit to be sent to my local dealer, Moto Corsa. Iwent there recently for the modification [where I saw a newabsolutely awesome Brough Superior number 002, £50.000 pounds and gorgeous, interestingly with four disc and 8pads at the front!!. And a leak from the water cooling system - so if it can happen to Brough ...].

Anyway back to the modification, thisincludes two one way valves, one in thefeed to the oil cooler and another to the oil pump, so sump wetting cannot[?] happen. Howeverthe engine is designed to hold 500Mg of oil when switched off. When started up next timethere will always be some mist [but a much smaller amount hopefully] a small amount will probably find its way into the air box. This mist hits a baffle plate and condenses thendrops to the bottom of the air box where it passes to the small clear plastic "catch Tank", down by the left hand passenger foot rest on my bike. This will need emptying when necessary [so far there is no oil in my catch tank]. So thisbottle isNOT temporary [according to Moto Corsa] and could be thrown away if you like the thought of oil on the rear tyre which I guess most of us would not go for. The breather pipeson top of the rocker covers have also been removed.

One interesting point; I topped up the engine oil before the modification [it was low despite checking immediately after a longish run] but when the modification was carried out my oil level wastoo high and will need to be lowered. By the way, if the plastic bottle gets filled up quickly I would think this means there might be a continuing problem.

Changing the subject, has anyone fitted the factory handle bar fairing after taking delivery of the bike -does it work or does it just look nice? Is it worth the money?

Apart from the weight I love the bike. The 961 is heavy compared to that Brough, I was allowed to move it a little I hardly new it was there.

Safe Riding Roger
