I need to purchase a full gasket set, but see a wide variation in prices. Being a tight Scot ;-)
I would like to spend as little as possible, but don't want to buy junk, especially the head gasket.
Any recommendations please?

Go for the Victor Reinz head gasket, as supplied by Andover Norton (maybe others); far and away the best head gaskets you can buy. Omit the cylinder base gasket and use sealant. Other gaskets are much of a muchness from all suppliers so long as your faces are flat.
