Routing of throttle cable

Forums

Hi newbie here, I am trying to rebuild a basket case 1970 750, lots of parts were missing.I have fitted a mikuni carb and wonder if it is wise/safe to route the cable through the head steady as in the picture, regards, Dean

It's not usual, but then neither are those angled cable guides. So, provided there's enough room around the cables that they don't get trapped between head steady and frame, 5mm should be enough, run them as you please.

The virtue of Bowden cables is that they're little-influenced by vibration...but even on a standard Commando, a change of fuel tank or handlebar means experimenting to find a line with the least cable resistance.

The worst that can happen is that the throttle sticks open and you arrive at the pub five minutes before your friends. Enjoy the moment.
