Hi Everyone. I am almost there with the rebuild of my dads Norton ES2 1948. Everything is fitted back together now and I plan on testing the bike first before fitting the new petrol tank. But I have noticed the throttle is sticking once opened it doesn't spring back. I'm not sure if it should or not but seems wrong that it stays open. I have read about a sticking throttle cable but wanted some advice on this first. If anyone has any advice on this I would be very grateful as I'm almost there with the project now.

The friction adjuster date…
The friction adjuster dates back to the days of hand signals. The idea being the the engine would continue to run, at a steady speed, when the twist grip was released to signal. Most of today's road users have no idea of the meaning of hand signals, as they are no longer included in the highway code. Obviously signals need to be given well before the manoeuvre, which is difficult if the bike slows immediately the twist grip is released. With careful adjustment, the throttle can be made to close slowly, when released. What you don't want is the throttle to stay wide open in the event of an accident.

First thing to check is the twistgrip. Many have a little friction screw which you can back off so that the throttle snaps shut or you can set it so that the throttle stays open - not really recommended.
