Worm drive bolt torque?

Forums

Torque Settings please for the worm drive nut on a Dommi 600?

I am noticing that too much torque causes binding in the crank rotation.

Many thanks.

There is no torque setting specified in the manuals as far as I know. Good and tight is the usual setting - and of course it should be self-tightening in use. If the crank is binding when you tighten the nut, there is something else amiss.

There is a hardened steel washer behind the middle gear if I remember correctly - the annoying one with the shaft that comes out with the timing cover, dropping the washer - maybe you have missed a spacer?

As Gordon says, there is something not right if the shaft is binding when the worm nut is tightened.

Behind this worm nut should be a thick triangular washer and behind that the oil control disc. Then the bearing.

You should able to torque the nut up to 70ftlbs as a good starting point. The left-hand thread will help it to self-tighten.

Check that all the bits are in the correct order and the oil control disc is facing outwards. ie the dish edge towards the timing cover. This item can cause problems if damaged as it may be binding on the housing it turns inside. See attachment for diagram of bits required.

Many thanks guys. I checked it out again and you were quite right there was some distortion in the oil control disc causing it to catch slightlyon the engine case.

The new one I have picked up from Norvil is an even worse fit than the old one. I tried it in two separate timing cases and I would have to take a file to it to stand any chance of getting it in.

I have managed to reshape the old one now so problem solved. Thanks again for the input.
