Wipac Light switch wiring

Forums

I am about to manufacture a new wiring harness for my Navigator.

I used the diagram by Tony Ripley an altered it from Electra to Navigator. ( without electric starter)

How do I wire the Wipac light switch?

There are nine terminals. Which wire goes where? Two wires are already soldered to the switch by the previous owner.

Ulrich, The wires are not soldered to the terminals of the light switch. The wires from the loom terminate in a connecting block which is a push fit unto the terminals of the Wipac switch. I don't know where you can get this terminal block (you need two of them -one for the ignition switch as well). Al Osborn is your best bet.

Superb wiring diagram-both the TR original and your amended version. I hadn't seen it before.

I know this connecting block goes with the switch:

But the holding bracket for it is also missing.

I do not wire the ignition switch on top of the lampshell. I rather use a Commando switch with key which goes into a hole in the right backside of the lampshell. The previous owner had positioned a key switch here. So the ignition/emergeny switch is only decoration without function.

My question was what wire goes to which terminal?

Ulrich, according to my notes of 25 years ago i numbered the pins 1 to 9. The wiring on the light switch is ;

1 feed to headlight dip switch

2 tail light and speedo light

3 pilot light

4 disconnect- was orange wire from alternator

5 yellow wire link to ignition switch- not needed by you.

6 resistance wire - not needed by you.

7 link wire to terminal 1

8 live feed from battery (ignition switch in your diagram)

9 live feed from battery (ignition switch in your diagram)

My notes don't show which pin I numbered as 1 but looking at the picture of your Wipac switch the soldered on leads would probably be pins 7,8,and 9. but test first on a meter unless someone can come up with a better description.

Have you tested your switches? Wipac switches are deceptive as they can click quite nicely and give the impression of working. I have found that in many cases they often don't work because of corrosion on the inside of the switch.

Thanks Patrick!

THAT is the info I was looking for!

I have not tested the switches yet.

The bases with the pins are the same for light and ignition switches.

Hope at least one is working!

I just ordered the sockets for the switches.

In the diagram I added the terminal numbers according to Patrick?s list.

Hope I got it right. The number one terminal is the one after the cut off terminal on the switch. So the soldered wires are on terminals 1-3.
