Wideline Mudguard Brackets/Lifting Handles

Forums

Hi - I'm new to this forum. Looking for some advice on the Brackets/Lifting handles for a 59 Wideline (2-part mudguard) - are Wideline and Slimline handles the same? Asking because I see plenty of "Slimline" but relatively few "Wideline". Thanks, John

Hi John, the wideline rear grab handles have a slot in the rearmost hole to allow the rear section of the mudguard to be removed without disturbing the main front section, (the slimline rear mudguards are one-piece). The rear securing bolts of the handles and the bolt in the centre just in front of the join have top-hat washers and the bolts does not need to be completely removed. I do not know if the dimensions of the two types are the same but they certainly look similar.

Thanks for that Bob - much appreciated. I think I'm going to see if I can get a pair of either type then. If the only ones I can get hold of are Slimline then I'll just have to completely remove the bolts as/when needed.

John, the main difference is that the wideline handles are curved in two planes - vertical and horizontal and have more holes in than the slimline one. I have never had a slimline to directly compare as I have a wideline Dommie. I have the original handles but they are too rusty for re-chroming (mine had chrome guards, stays & handlesex-works) so I intend to have a go at making new ones myself - watch this space! (For a very long time I expect!). I have the tubing (5/8" o.d.) and a plumber's pipe bender, sledge hammer, cold chisel, disc cutter etc....etc...

I'm told that the slimline ones can be "adapted" ( a very misleading word!) to fit but they are usually chromed and it would seem a shame to damage that.

As far as I know, no-one makes wideline lifting handles and, in the 7 years I've been looking, no-one ever has.

Good luck!

Lionel
