Valve springs

Forums

I have a 1972 750 comat running a 4s cam and in a high state of tune, I tend to ride it like a hooligan most of the time and this has set me wondering about the valve springs, they are standard 06-7070, I'd just like to know are they up to the job?

Funny you should post that as I have two sets and at the moment with a PW3 it has the RGM std replacements. Well they are certainly pretty tough and take more effort to compress than the Fred Barlow supplied parts that were in the bike with the std cam and prior that a 2S which is of course similar to your 4S. I used the RGM parts as I felt the FBS items were tired. I certainly never had an issue with the FBS springs and ability to reach 7000 regularly. Just had the head and barrels off to look for a top end noise source and was going to change the springs but I didn't as the cam was in good condition with no obvious wear. The same cannot be said of my RH exhaust valve tip which has been hammered to hell. Back together for now but may have to pull it again. I'd leave well alone if you aren't getting valve float.
