Think twice before fitting a silicone base gasket under the barrels.

Forums

Because they seem to crush more than the paper one, with the following results, a slight mark on the pistons. And valve replacement, of course.

For US guys, in MI, who want to know where not to bring their bikes, just give me a call.

Surely it shouldn't be that close to begin with?  If we start worrying about tolerances on thickness of base gaskets, will we ever sleep soundly again?

There should be clearance between piston and valves.  0.040" is (I believe) the usual figure.  No paper base gasket should be near that thickness.  Did it have a plate fitted to reduce compression, which has been removed? Or higher lift cam fitted? Blutack or similar can be used to check...carefully.

No plate fitted when dismantling and the guy who sold me the bike never told me about a higher lift cam fitted. I'll go the Blutack way or modeling clay, the first one I can get my hands one.
