Kim the CD Man produces very nice collections of original factory manuals and parts books on CD ROM disks. You can email him at: kimthecdman@techinfo.com.au. You really need the parts book as well as the manual, since you will be having to order parts at some stage.

Hi Guy,

You can buy it from this very web site (unless it is lying to me!).

Look in NOCshop - Books and Video's

As regards a manual, I have always used the genuine Norton manual, have a look athttp://www.andover-norton.co.uk/JRP/jrframes.htm- catalogue - scroll down.

Tony

Thanks for the info Tony but there dosent appear to be any way of buying it on this site. I will look at the Andover Norton site too.

Hi Richard

Thanks for the info, i will try again.

I can help you with your problem, i had the same. Its to do with internet explorer 9 i think. If you go to the help section it tells you what to do. You have to click the blue broken page symbol right at the top of the page, to the right of the manifying glass symbol. After you do that it works. Dont you love computers?

We (Andover Norton) distributed those CDs for a while but found there was virtually no call for them, so ceased to do it.

The manuals and parts lists we sell quantities off and seem to be reprinting them all the time.

I have one of the CDs but find I never use it, but use the real paper ones daily in the shop. You can't write notes into CDs, you know...

Joe and Guy, I'll agree that paper manuals and parts books are useful and convenient. I use Kim's CD most of the time, but I simply print out the manual and/or parts book and put it in a binder if I want it in my bog or garage. The PDF files print out very well on A size or A4 size paper.

An advantage of the CDs is that it enables looking at different bike manuals and parts books to check for parts interchangeability between models, including ones which I do not own and therefore would not order a paper manual for.

For what it's worth, I use the official NVT Workshop manual (ringbinder), in conjunction with

- the Haynes Commando manual, still available I believe

-the Clymer Commando manual, this is out of print - I got mine a few years ago from Ebay. Note that the Clymer combined manual covering Norton, Triumph & BSA twins is a 'Readers Digest' version of theoriginals(though still useful, and I think still available).

- I also have copies of the INOA digest (viathe NOC) and the Commando notes (again purchased years agofrom the NOC)

I seem to remember that there are some couple of editting errors in both Haynes & Clymer e.g wrong thread direction in Haynes manual for rear wheel bearing removal (don't ask me how I know this)

The parts book is also a useful aid when (dis)assembling for part sequence, identification and for 'The Joy of Ordering'.

When I strippeed the head I used a scanner & digital camera to copy the appropriate pages from the manual(s) andtaped them to the wall of the garage for ready reference(I also took lots of 'before' photo's to assist in reconstruction). This h

elps keep processed hydrocarbons off the sheets during night time reading ;)
