Spitting back.....

Forums

Hi - I agree with the gentleman with the Mk3 - my single carb conversion seems to have done wonders for my Mk2 - strange - must be something to do with the large jet they supply.

One problem though - I get the occasoinal 'spit back' through the carb and its also quite difficult to start when warm (ie 3 kicks instead of 1, so it feels a bit churlish to complain!) - trouble is, if it stops at lights its a bit embarrassing.

Any thoughts....?

Could be that your idle mixture is a bit on the lean side. Spitting and coughing when opening the throttle from idle is often an indication of this. If you have anAmal fitted try richening the idle mixture, and if that doesn't give enough you may need a throttle valve (slide) with a smaller cutout, to enrichen the mixture in the transition phase from the idle circuit to main jet.
