I'm using M5 on mine (Smiths with blue/white NVT squiggle). But M5 and 2BA threads are so close as to be interchangeable so you can probably use either; M5 being easier to find of course.

OK, I don't have a Commando, but the Smiths magnetic clocks on my Dommi use 2BA nuts.
If your bike has Veglia clocks, then they are probably 5mm (are on my Morini) if that is any help.
