Hi
I have recently had my speedometer refurbished, and I now need to sort out the speedo gearbox. I have been unable to find out the name of the part that holds the speedo cable in the drive (metal/brass? bit, attached). It needs replacing, but I am unsure whether I can source it as an individual part, of if I need to buy a whole new gearbox. I have gone through catalogues in the regular online shops, but no luck.
Thanks all
for your input
IsaakPS: moderators, is there an option to be able to swiftly search through older posts? It seems like a good improvement, to avoid duplicate posts and to help Norton owners to find answers to their queries in a speedy way.Yes - it's been there all the time and just a few inches away on your screen. Try Gaggs as they have a huge supply of speedo drive gearbox's, revcounter drives, as well as all the cables that would be required for all Norton models.

I had never heard of Gaggs (being an American), so I "Googled" them & found a great write up about them! I will get ahold of them to see if they rebuild the whole speedometer gearbox, or just sell replacements. No one "over here" seems to know how to repair them.

Thank you for reminding me about Gagg. I was a student in Nottingham in the early 1970s, and I remember the shop now. I just emailed them with regard to my Electra speedo and drive.
For Isaak, I think Norvil do a part exchange service on speedometer drives, check their website. I did get a rebuilt rev counter drive for my 650 from them about 10 years ago.

I have some broken speedo drives that i will not throw away in case one day they can be fixed. Unfortunatly i have never found any one that can repair them. I live in hope, but until i can get my old ones repaired i have had to buy new ones. Sad but true. I have asked Gagg's of Nottingham, and they can not repair them, so this is where i have bought all my new ones.

Isaak:
I believe that the item you have posted the photos about is a brass fitting/bushing that is a press fit into the speedo drive housing. I have never heard of it being sold separately.
I guess that you could buy an old drive unit with bad gears and remove the old bushing by cutting away the housing and then re-fit it to your housing by pressing it in. But it would be simpler to just get a new drive.

I wonder if the housing & brass piece could be cleaned well, primed with loctite primer, then apply red Loctite & re-assemble?
Nothing to loose?

I'm pretty certain you'll have to buy the whole thing - try Burton Bike Bits or RGM.
