OkI give in, the mk3 has a circlip both ends of the sleeve gear holding in the bushes, does anyone know how to remove the circlips without damaging the gear? Thanks

I have found that if you use a feeler gauge blade you can get it under the circlip and lift it enough to get something like a small screwdriver under it and flick it out

Circlips removed and emergency over thanks for your replies, used jewelers screwdriver along middle of circlip.

Damaging the gear is not a real risk. Extracting the circlips is really a matter of getting under them with a small screwdriver. Eye protection is a good idea.
