Single carb for 1970 750 Roadster

Forums

Hi,

Can anyone recommend suitablesettings for a single carb fitting for my 750 roadster. I have just fitted new 30mm Amals but have an intermittent fire on the right hand cylinder. Left hand runs perfectly. I want to fit the left hand carb as a single carb to check whether the fault is in the new R/H carb or the Boyer. The twin carbs are at standard settings.

It doesn't make sense that going from dual carbs to a single carb would cause a mis on one side or the other. I would check the wiring first. Maybe you pulled a wire off when making the installation.

Hi Mike,

I think you have misread Ian's question. From what I understand, he has new twin carbs fitted. He has a misfire on one side so is going to temporarily fit one carb as a single setup.

If it is just temporary, you should be able to run with standard setting as long as you do not rev to much. When does it missfire ?

Don'tforget that if you have a Boyer that this fires both coils together so it cannot be the boyer but could be an iffy coil/HT lead/plug.

It is muchquickerto swap the coils and bits over than to convert to single carb.

Thanks Tony, What you said was correct. I did fit 2 new Concentrics (plus new coils I obtained off the well known auction web site). I have justdone the single carb conversion and still had the problem of intermittent firing on the right cylinder so this has eliminated the carbs as the source of the problem. I have removed the points cover and think that it is a problem in the wires from the Boyer as by flicking the wires I can get the right cylinder to run properly. I will replace these wires as a permanent fix.

Thanks for the responses guys.

regards,

Ian
