Side stand - spring fixture

Forums

Hi,

it's time for one of those dumbxss questions again. Having finally gotten around to fitting a side stand with all the necessary hardware, I struggle to find a point of fixture for the frameend of the spring. Where did it originally go? It's a 1972 Roadster but I guess not too many changes over the years.

Thanks for that, got it! Was of course filled and painted over, but a little poking and prodding did the trick!

Over time and with much upping and downing of prop stand this little hole in the frame tubeeventually wears a groove on the curled spring end which can eventually snap off causing prop stand to swing out.Not what you want whilst heeled over in a leftturn but takesseveral years regularusage before this is a possibility - just keep an eye on it whenunder the engine for sump plug removal during oil changes.

when my spring rusted through and the side sand bounced off the road I fitted a SS and didn`t likethe cost cuttingidea of attachment hole inX member so used a small alu clamp from a bicycle brake lever attach.

Thanks for the heads ups on the dangers lurking within that innocent looking spring! I did fit an SS spring, but as mentioned the constant rubbing of the spring end in the frame hole will eventually wear it thin.

My SS item did just that and being a cheapscate on some things I rebent the end and it has been in place for many years now. Thanks for the reminder. I will change it now.
