Side panels

Forums

Hi - I am just about finished restoring my 850 Commando and need some help with the side panels.

1. How is the Dzus clip fix to the battery side panel, is it pop riveted?

2. How does the oil cover panel go, I see that it bolts to the top of the oil tank, but cant see where the bottom fixes to the frame?

hope someone can help

cheers - Chris

Chris,

1. Not sure, you must have an early 850. None of mine have the Dzus fastening. On my 750 the arm isbonded to it, and the Dzus goes through the little hole on the frame plate.

2. Yes, top bolts on. Make sure that the top is spaced off the tank, should be thick lugs around the bolt holes. if not just use washers about 4mm thick. The bottom fixing is a tab that hangs off the bottom of the panel with a two sided rubber grommet ( 06-1686) through it, which just slots in behind the Z plate.

hope that helps.

Chris,

What is your next question ?

The Dzus end goes behind the frame rail that goes down to the footrest Z plate. There should be a small hole in the gusset where this rail leaves the main spine tube. The Dzus fastener , which has a finger tab on it, goes through the gusset hole and into the Dzus fastener. OK ??

Chris,

The other end of the wire bracket, which I presume you are holding in your fingers, is bonded with fibreglass onto the inside of the side panel.

I will see if I can get a photo of mine onto the page.

The wire clip you refer to is pop riveted or secured with small screws and nuts to the arm on the side panel. Hope this helps . Craig
