Hello Mark Its is Interesting you can see some one as used the machine for racing at some time in the past. the first thing is what is the frame and engine numbers and next question do they match each other . the frame number and engine numbers match. then you need let me know if you need any help with this as I rebuilt many Norton motorcycle and others too And I do the Wheel building as well , I have take wheel apart in worse condition then these ones normally ,I remove the wheels from the bike and then the tyres and bush some red diesel on the inside of the rim and leave it for a week then set about it with my spoke key and remove the spokes one by one the original spoke should be galvanized and they should not be in too bad a condition and will clean up nice. the next job . is this photo thing were they are so you can look back on then if needed. then have some part bits at the ready . and bit by bit take the bike apart , next it to get thing clean and I mean very clean . then clean you work area once you have cleaned every thing. next is to do some research on the correct colour scheme as not all Norton,s were Black And Sliver . get the right colour could make the difference in the price of the bike if you are going to sell it on. once all is clean you then can make a list of parts missing. as for the paint work you can do this your self. even if you have not done any spray painting before. just log on to you tube and there is lots of tutorials on there. but start with some thing like a old tool box or a card broad box some thing just to have a bit of practices on first so you get a good finish. and if you need any help putting the engine and gear box back to gether were all hear to help out, yours anna j

I don't think it has been raced, just cafe-racer clip-ons fitted. The hint is whether or not the various drain plugs have been drilled for lock wire.

Hi

My thoughta are that as Gordon said it was done up as a cafe racer, the fairing came with it as well, but I will be restoring back as close to original as possible. Nothing has been removed to make it lighter or no plugs drilled. Engine and frame numbers match, 18S/1048XX/P. I bought the bike off a chap who bought it in the late 70s, and it is as he bought it then.

The engine has been stripped but I haven't been able to work out why, as everything looks OK, may have beensomeone who liked pulling things apart?

Anyhow let the work begin, as soon as I finish building a shed so I can get to it.

Best Regards

Mark
