Rubber faced chain tensioner (timing case)

Forums

The Mick Hemmings Norton twin rebuildDVD (Mick) does not recommend the rubber faced chain tensioner for the Dommie. The thing is, this NOC sponsored DVD does not state when the DVD was made.

I have bought a rubber faced cam chaintensioner from RGM for Pre Commando. Part No 067574R.

Could it be that since the video, a new item has been produced to suit the pre Commando?

Thought I'd ask before fitting. No word from RGM yet.

Thanks in anticipation.

Somebody else might have experience - but wasn't it Hopwood's theory that using one cam with 4 lobes rather than the two cams each with 2 lobes (as used by inferior machines) was that with 4 lobes there was little reversal in cam chain loading so not much point having sophisticated tension control on the drive chain - and chain drive should be quieter than straight cut gears - presumably giving us the well known silent Norton timing case. We wish. Maybe the rubber faced one will be quieter.

Thanks David, RGM said that this is a new part from Andover Norton, especially for the pre commando to help keep down noise from the timing case area. Any issues and I'll report back. Please note that this is not the same partas the Commando rubber faced chain tensioner.
