Roadster Fuel tank & side panels

Forums

Hi I am a newbie to the Club and have just bought a MK3 Interstate. However, I would like to be able to change my bike into a Roadster, when required.  I have been looking at various suppliers, EBAY etc. and it seems a bit of a minefield. Does anyone have a Roadster tank and side panels for sale? (metal) Or does anyone have any advice on where to buy from and who to avoid. All help much appreciated. Thank you, Greg

You can get a decent EMGO Roadster tank from a few sources in the UK , Andover being one . Unless you can source genuine Mk 3 side panels second hand (battery side is unique to this bike, but oil tank ones are all the same) then you might have to go Indian. Whatever they tell you - the battery side panel will be the type with the Dzus fastener arrangement. This panel can be made to fit the bike by cutting off the tool box and re working the edges, it's fairly straight forward to do, I've done a few. Don't forget you will also need a Roadster seat.

Have gone the other way with my Mk 2a. Too little range for me but I do still have the tank, very smart in Black and Gold, the liner was on its last knockings when I was  using it but its a real one. I still use the side panels because it looks better,  I got people in Norfolk to re line my Interstate tank, very good job .

You can actually buy these brand new on Amazon UK. I assume they will be made in India though to keep the price down but are sent from the UK. The advantage of buying them from Amazon is you can easily return them within 30 days for a full refund if they don't fit or are rubbish quality as long as you have not damaged them.

Thank you for your help and advice and offer to purchase a tank. I have now ordered a Roadster tank and side panels. However, do you think it would be wise to have the new tank lined?

In my HO if you use E0 petrol then there is little need to line the tank, especially if you leave it full with E0.

In 2006 I spent an age getting the sealant out of  my two slimline tanks, thanks to this dreadful ethanol and never bothered to re-seal. They are both like new inside and have been since.

Also, if using E, be careful not to spill it on your new paintwork. Some horror stories out there.....

Your choice.

PS: Tesco Esso contains Ethanol.
