As I am looking to build up some new wheels for my bike, I thought it might be an opportune time to fit a twin disk hub (especially as I don't have any front hub at all!).
Does anyone have experience of using the RGM twin disk hub on a Commando? In particular, I would like to confirm that the disk spacing is as per a standard single disk setup. As RGM do not currently stock a LH leg that allows mounting of a caliper, I would be looking to run a single disk on the RH side for now.
Thanks,
Ian

Hi Allan,
I did contact RGM and they provided a very short response stating "People do buy these hubs and run them with only one disc." Call me overly cautious, but with all you experts on hand, I wanted to get an unbiased opinion on this if possible. Whilst I am grateful for any response from RGM (as indeed I am from this listing), their reply doesn't really make a statement that I don't need further mods to achieve single disk operation.
Cheers,
Ian

Hi Ian,
Yes, I can see why you'd like some objective verification.
There are a couple of threads on this forum about RGM parts (exhaust pipes and primary chain tensioners, I think) that didn't fit. I hope that someone comes along who can answer your question.
Just a thought - don't Norvil do a twin disc set-up?
Allan.

Yes, Norvil do, but I'm reluctant to pay their prices. I'm on a very tight budget so every penny counts this time!

Hi Ian, just a word of caution..... most of the twin disk hubs I've seen on Commandos are fitted with modern looking fully floating disks which are a 6 bolt fitting. if you intend to use your original Norton disk for the time being it is a 5 bolt fitting and wont fit on the new hub. I'm sure that if RGM have said that some people use this hub with only one disk they mean that the person also purchased a modern fully floating RGM disk with 6 hole fixing. I've fitted 3 Commandos with the Norvil twin disk setup and although expensive to buy to start with they are superb kits, go together properly and look and work superbly. You could try ringing Les at Norvil and see if he would do you a deal by taking your old surplus bits in part-ex. He does buy bits in for use on his Commando re-furbs. Cheers Alan Clarke, Tamworth

Hi Ian.
Can't RGM confirm this for you?
Allan.
