Removal of locking ring on clutch withdrawal lever Dominator 88

Forums

Hi

I am trying to replace the kick-start shaft without taking the gearbox outof frame. The end cover has been removed and all the bolts removed. However Iam unsure as the best way of removing the locking ring. My Haynes manual justsays to unscrew it; is there a special tool that I need. Would it be better toleave the locking ring in place and remove the full main shaft?

I have attached a photo of the gearbox in situ

Any help greatly appreciated

Paul,

We have designed and made a tool that actually works- I use it myself for the job, would you believe!- as opposed to at least one offering that has been in the market for many years and has been practically useless for as many years. Our tool is NM23441 and you can see it at the bottom of this page: http://www.andover-norton.co.uk/SI%20Service%20Tools.htm

For Andover Norton the disadvantage is the Norton owner who bought it might never need a new lockring again, which before he needed every 2-3 times he had been at it.......

hello paul I made my own from a nice length of tube drill hole at one end for a tomie bar and measure and cut the other end leaving two stub ends to fit the locking ring ?
