Petrol cap seal

Forums

Evening All, Hope you are out enjoying the fine weather!

I have now done about 300 miles on my newly restored inter and despite a few small teathing troubles it's been great fun!

I am however starting to lose the paint around my filler cap because of the petrol leaking out. The cork I used in it has shrivelled up and is useless! I have now put some neoprene based pond liner in it to try that, but as I am sure this is a problem that has been encountered many times before I thought I would ask on here what people have done? Its a pre-war tank with the buterfly screw up type filler cap.

Thanks in advance

Andy

Andy,

You might try talking to Auto Hose. No e-mail or web site but in the Services directory. They sell Viton rubber sheet which should be ethanol petrol resistant.

Methanl...the bikers friend!

Exactly the same happened to me and its expensive for a respray. I bought some 1/8 oil / fuel proof sheet and made my own gaskets. I also made a 5" rubber gasket to go tightly around the neck and onto the tank, stops spills etc and helps protect the vunerable painted section. It actually looks like it has always been there and works well.

Check e bay for the sheet its not expensive.
