O-ring on camplate spindle : Mk3 850

Forums

Anyone know what the O-ring on the camplate spindle does?

Part #19 here: https://andover-norton.co.uk/en/shop-drawing/128/gearbox-inner-cover

There isn't one in my box, if fact I don't remember ever seeing one. Shifts fine but I noticed it while looking up some oil seals and wondered.

The O ring on the cam plate spindle is a seal. The link to the AN drawing is of the pawl carrier shaft rubber ring

It’s internal so won’t stop oil leaking out. I don’t think it’s needed and is probably one of the many mistakes in the parts book.

Thanks Alan. I couldn't think of any reason to put an o-ring there.

It's drawn on the diagram rather differently to other o-rings so maybe it's one of those deliberate mistakes to prove when someone has made an unauthorised copy.
