Greetings,
Any idea what thread has been used on the chaincase retaining spiggot (the one the footrest locates & nut holds chane case together) looks like 22 TPI at one inch diameter but difficult to use thread gauges as this part is damaged and I wish to rewprk if at all possible.
Any ideas please?

1-22 would be a very unusual thread. I think it is a 1-26 cycle thread, since back in the day threads were all Cycle (26 tpi and 20 tpi), Whitworth, or BSF. American (Unified) threads only started being used on Commandos. To be sure buy a nut - Norvil sells stainless ones, and the spares scheme probably does as well - and measure the thread in that with your thread gauges.

Hi Steve,
I checked my '50 Dommi & it is 1" x 20 TPI, I looked up the part number: A2-495 , which converts to 06-7609.
I did a check on Norvil's site & under the part number it also lists it as a
NUT - CHAINCASE CENTRE - 1" x 20 TPI & they sell it in chrome & stainless steel

The WD parts books for the 16H list most fastener thread sizes and confirm that for those at least, it was 1" x 20 tpi.

Steve,
On the example I have just looked at (1948) the diameter measures out at 0.996" so it's reasonable to assume it used to be 1". I can measure threads over a ?" length and get 10, so 20 t.p.i. on this item. Were they all the same? Maybe not - I seem to remember that the t.p.i. for the fork stem changes by a thread or two per inch somewhere along the line.
