New project

Forums

Like Eugene I have also completedmy 1960 Dominator, and I now have a new project on the table, you may have seen it on ebay, it is the 1957 Dominator with all matching numbers and an old log book. I think I will need 1 or 2 touch up pens.

Hi Ian, seems my last postdisappeared! The project looks great, seems like its fairly complete & some new items as well! Nice find. Take loads of pics for your before & after photo album as you go along. Here is a great forum to look at : http://www.britbike.com/forums/ubbthreads.php

Not only do they have a nice Norton only section, but there is a section called "members bike projects" thatis dedicated to ourMembers British motorcycle Projects. You don't need to restore or build a complete bike, you can show how you restore and build for example a wheel.

Give it a look!

The boxes are now empty apart from some small items like, foot rests ect so what you see is a complete motorcycle apart from a rear huband a centre stand which I willneed.

What you don'tsee is every chrome plated item on the parts list and all new, other things you don't see iarethenew liners in the barral with new pistons a re con dynamo and a rubber battery, not bad for 1/2 the cost of anew kitchen.

Now I need a colour scheme, the original colour can be seen on the inside of the primary chain case, it is polywhatsit grey and I am crap with metallic paint,so I have searched the inter net looking for pic'c of the year (1957) and have found anumber of grey ones and a forest green oneand this is an original 1959 model and can be seen on ebay, anna says it would look nice in this colour, and I have to agree, so can any one confirm that that a 1957 dommi 99 could have left the factory this colour.

Hi Ian, great pic's! You have been busy in the shop, you should have been out riding while you have the chance :)

I am probably not the best one to comment on paint, as a painted my '57 model 77 post office red! While checking my books, I show the colors for a 1957 Dommie model 99 as follows " petrol tank painted grey with separate chrome -plated side panels & plastic beading on the edge.

You may also find this page of the website interesting : go to the technical section, then go toMiscellaneous, then to Norton colours and paints, or just click the link below:

Hello Ian the answer to you question is yes Norton did do some of there machine in Forest Green and the 1960s Machine where in Forest Green And Dove Grey One of our members as just restrored his 1961 Es2 in Forsit green and Dove grey , and it look very nice job too , I ask him for the paint Code for you , Spray painting is easy when you know what you doing , if its the first time of having aog you self , theres one thing you need too do first , is buy Hayens books on paint spraying and panal beating and sit down and read it carefully , and go get the right kit and safety gear then try it out on a bit of old steel sheat and till you get a good finish on it , then you can do the sameto you motorcycle parts , so get stuck in and have a go if I can re-spray Any thing from an motorcycle to a van or car ! hope this may help AJD
