I have just taken ownership of a 1943 WD Royal Enfield 350 OHV from someone I've know for years, just down the road from me. As part of the deal I got 10 litres of 40W oil in sealed containers - it looks like it came from a local farm supplies shop a few years ago. 'That will do for your Norton too' said the vendor. Do I need to be cautious of such oil ?

I bought twenty five litres of Castrol GP 50 for my G9 many tears ago and used it for oil changes over a period of around fifteen years, all I ever did was to give the drum a good shaking up before each change the engine is still as quiet as it ever was.
