Need a hand to fit Wistonia panniers

Forums

Hi!

I recently bought some 1959 Wistonia panniers that were fitted on a 1961 Dommie (at least that's what previous owner said). I want to fit them on my 650 Dommie, but I am struggling to find the way how to do it... Apart from the rigid structure, they also came with two pairs of alluminium arms to be used. If anyone has fitted these in the past, I would be very thankful if you can give some advice.

Thanks!

Isaak

The featherbed frame does not have a strong rear subframe supporting the rear mudguard. With a rack and panniers it is easy to have the mudguard ending up as the weight-bearing structure, leading to eventual split mudguard, as I know all too well. Craven used to produce some long steel carrier supports which went from the rear footrests to the carrier to take the weight. They were only partially successful in my experience. If fitting panniers, you need to sort out where the stresses will be and add suitable load-carrying structures. Not a 5 minute job unfortunately.

Thanks Gordon. Perhaps the alluminium arms are to be fitted down by the footrests. I'll keep checking and scratching my head.
