Mk.1 Amal 3? slide setting

Forums

Hi all

I have just replaced the carbs on my mk 3 850, and am not sure what gap there should be at boottom of 3 1/2 cutaway slide, at throttle shut, when setting them up.

Has any one else used the new premier carbs from Amal ,and got any feedback?

thanks for any help it will be much appreciated.

I've never seen a measurement for this but my usual assembly procedure is to rub the throttle screws up until they touch the slide and then 3/4 to 1 turn more. Start the engine, warm up and then see if it will idle with those settings. If not or it runs too fast then adjust equally as needed.

Have not used the 'Premier' carbs but did fit new bodies from the new tooling three years ago. They were fine except for a tight fit on the float where it moves in the casting. Mine stuck up or down until I removed some material. I did fit chrome plated brass slides and they have been worthwhile.

Thanks Keith

I'll give that a try, and see how they go.

I wanted to keep Amals on the bike, but have had to wait almost two months for delivery of the premier carbs, luckly the weather has not been that great up here in Scotland so not much riding missed.
