Hi,
Maybe someone will know the answer. My swingarm has been picked up recently for having to much lateral play in it, about 2mm. I decided to strip it and see what the problem was, thinking it maybe the Timken bearing conversion that was done way back in '86 by the previous owner.
The Timkem bearings are fine and give no vertical or for' and aft' movement in in the swingarm. It seems that the inner swingarm seals are all that was controlling the lateral play, I don't think is correct and would have normally be controlled by the swingarm bush part number 065320 which the shoulder portion that sits in the recess of the inner seal and faces up against the cradel and thus preventing movement - am I correct in thinking this??

Problem solved, the swingarm and spindle are pre MKIII, the spindle being machined to accept the cotter pins. I bought two bushes and cut the shoulder portion off them and placed them in the inner swingarm seal where they are normally located and re-fitted the swingarm. Now the lateral side to side play has been eliminated. It seems that the bearing conversion was a problem looking for a solution, and really thought through when originally fitted.
