MK III ignition /warning light console

Forums

I am contemplating the installation of a MkIII console for the warning lights and ignition switch on to my 1971 Commando Fastback. I have studied the exploded drawings available on the web from Norvil and Andover but cannot understand how the console is attached to the triple clamp. I would appreciate it if one of the members who owns a MK III with ignition console can explain to me how it is attached and what parts I would need to attach the console to the fork assembly. I have acquired the console and will be receiving the other parts to the console soon. The available parts drawings do not show how this unit is attached. Thank you, Craig

Allan,Thank you for the information. I have looked at the info you have provided and now understand how it is done. I plan to modify my upper yoke and attach the console using anti vibration rubbers that are used to mount the oil tank.Thank you again, Craig

Hi Craig, I have done this conversion to two of my Commandos with great success, I didn't use rubber mountings just simply drilled a couple of 1/4" clearance holes in the top yoke in the appropriate place, and attached the pod by 2 x 1/4"unf nuts and bolts. Ifilled up the "gap" between the pod and the yoke by carefully cutting a 3.8" plain nut onthe appropriateangle. Very simple process, took me a couple of hours all in. You will also need to extend the four ( 3 depending on year) ignition switch wires. I am concerned that if you use oil tank rubber mounts the pod will be so far forward that the ignition switch bottom will fowl the headlight flickswitch in the top of the headlamp shell and you wont be able to turn it on or off. Measure everything before you start drilling !

Hope you are successful.

Cheers Alan

Thanks again, I did not consider that point. I will measure the distance and see if I have enough room. I will keep you posted on my progress. craig

I received my console parts today from a supplier here in the U.S, however they cannot supply the correct bulbs for the holders. I was hoping that you could advise me on where to obtain the correct bulbs and their part numbers. Craig

Hi Craig,

I'm on the other side of the pond to you, over here in Merry olde England. I buy all my parts from Norvil Motorcycles based in Staffordshire UK. They have a huge world-wide customer base andsend shipments to the US all the time. They have a website from which you will be able to order your parts very easily. its www.norvilmotorcycle.co.uk I've had a look in my Norvil motorcycle catalogue and it would appear that the bulbs you require are down asorder number 643 and they have it as a bulb 12volt 2.2 watts - bayonet - MCC BA9S. They also sell the bulb holders with the different coloured lenses. If you need clarification of which part number you require try e-mailing them.

Hope this is helpful, Cheers Alan

Hi Craig, where in the USA are you located? I am near Cleveland Ohio. I have dealt with Norvil quite a bit with no problems whatsoever. Some of my lighting I have dealt with Paul Geoff in the UK, he has tons of lighting, I was impressed with the huge range of original type bulbs, as well as LED bulbs & halogen bulbs! I am running LED bulbs everywhere on my bike except for the high watt halogen headlamp bulb. His prices are good, even with the shipping & he takes paypal if you like! Both vendors are highlyrecommended.

Thank you Allan and Skip. I have ordered many parts from Norvil for my Commando restoration. Until now I was not sure which bulbs were needed for the lamp holders. I have assembled the console with the ignition switch and the lamp holders and now I can order the proper bulbs. Thank you again. Skip , I live in Staffordville, Connecticut. I own a 2007 Triumph Bonneville and the 1971 Norton Commando Fastback. Cheers to all, Craig
