Mike,
Hi everybody I am new to the club, I have been biking for over 45yrs but never owned a Norton until now. Can somebody help? I have a 1956 wideline Dominator 99 in cafe racer trim, the glass tank a 5gall long range TT tank has been attacked by ethanol, not a problem throw it away, I have just purchased a new tank 5gall TT manx replica long range tank, the problem is what shade or code is the Norton silver grey, I heard there was a Ford silver that was clos but alas I am in the dark on this one. I want the nearest to the Manx colour I can get then I will get 8 Ball to paint, line and sign wright the tank. Can some body help on the colour code and type.
Mike McGowan.

Amazing! I had exactly this problem, GRP tank and all. I have just had the (steel) original painted in "Manx" style because the 1957 Dommi 99 was cursed with a horrible badge. The job was done by Phil Gofton, tel 02380-897083. He says Honda silver is correct, does all the black and red lining AND the Norton lettering by hand and finishes it all with two coats of petrol-proof lacquer. It is perfect.Your old GRP tank can be salvaged with "Caswell" epoxy coating, and there is a demand for them apparently. It is quite easy to do, (DIY) costs about £40. I did the steel tank before getting it painted because ethanol is deadly even to metal tanks.
Hi,
Thanks for the info, the new tank arrives Monday and is the Manx replica 5gall alloy long range tank, just out of interest I live in staffordshire so where is Phil Gofton located.
