Low speed popping and banging

Forums

My mk 3 has developed bad popping and banging at low speed until it is thoroughly warmed up. The bike is fine once it is revving higher up. It has a mikuni 34 mm single carb, and has run perfectly for @10,000 miles.

I'm going to take it apart , and check everything but any ideas what to look for to start with. Has Pazon ignition.

thanks

Sounds like your carb slow running mixture settingis out -likely too weak. Run standard Amals on mine so not familiar with the possible Mikuni adjustments available buton Amals you can adjusta pilot air screw to richen or weaken the slow running mixture. Try doing the same on your Mikuni with aricher setting to start with.

The other thing that might be happening with this bike is the ignition may be cutting in and out. At low rpm the Commando engine moves around a lot and if there is something loose in the ignition that vibration will make and break a connection and take turns loading then igniting the fuel in the exhaust.

Once some or all of the electrical connections warm up it might change how they are making contact and the way the bike runs. Sounds far fetched but I had a Commando with a bad ignition switch which did this....ran rough at low rpm and fine at higher speed.

All the basics are worth looking at.....
