Hi Guys, I was messing about with my carb settings, and it cut out so getting late I thought I'd leave it for another day, two days later go back to it and realised I'd left the ignition on. I charged up the battery and off it went, helmet on and it now runs like a bag of spanners, poping and farting all over the place. Could I have fried the coils, rectifier or anything else? Help! Cheers Tony.

No, it's probably the problems that led you to fiddle with the carbs, still haunting you!

Forgot to say that my answer is based on the fact that I have done exactly the same with no ill effects on the coils oranything other than a flat battery.

Most of us have done it and got away with it. The original type coils don't seem to get hot like the Japanese moulded type do.
Could your battery have gone flat because it was on the way out ? Does it read 13.5 v with an increase as you rev ? If not, and you're using a Boyer then it sounds like a classic case of low voltage.

I made the same mistake with a Mini cooper back in the 70's and whilst the problems were not as marked as you report it never went properly until I replaced the coil
