Left hand side panel

Forums

Hi,

Need some info before i send my panels and tank to be sprayed. I've been rebuilding a MKIIa for the last few years anddecided to fit an earlier metal air filter. Unfortunately the replacement metalside panels i bought (basket case that came with horrible fibre glass ones)seem to be for the later plastic airbox and thereforethe left hand panel is missing the top bracket to fasten it to the frame. Rather than buy yet another side panel with the correct bracket, can somebody do me the huge favour of sending some photographs of said bracket and how its attached to the frame? Hopefully i can make one up and tack it to the side panel.

Also, i'm confused regarding the dzus fastner on the same side (onto the battery tray) is this used or not? My Dads MkIII panels have the small square ident on the panel but no hole.

Last question, anybody recommend a decent painter/sprayer? I was going to send to Dream Machine but recently been hearing conflicting stories about quality.

Les Emery [Fair Spares / Norvil Motorcycle Company ] sells a stainless steel bracket with the appropriate bolt for about £12. You will need to fit a cut down part of the Dzus fastener to stop the nut and washer rubbing on your side panel, but it fits really nicely.

Hi Graham,

Mk2a panels (left hand) should hang on a peg attached to a bracket on the black box air filter, another peg from the frame gusset & a Dzus fastener onto the battery tray through the indent you mention, Mk3 panels have a tang on the bottom which fits behind the Z plate (same as the right hand panel on all models) & a peg & Dzus fastenerattached toa bracket on the black box, therefore the indent in the panel is not drilled as it's not needed. I have removed the black box on both my mk2's so do not have the front peg to hang the panel on so have simply fitted the earlier bracket to my panels & added the Dzus fastener to the frame gusset as per the earlier 750 models which I find an advantage as I can remove the panel without removing the seat, handy if I need to get at the tools etc when loaded with luggage/tent etc.If you give me an email address I'll send you some pics to make some sense of all this, sorry, not sure how to get pics on here. All the brackets & Dzus's are readily available & so cheap it's not realy worth making them. RGM part No's are Bracket = 1086,or 050038 & Dzus = 992, or 062489, hope this is of some help.

Regards, Tim

Hi Colin, thanks for the info, but after recent dealings with Mr Emery and his band 'merry' men, i would rather slam my privates in a very heavy door than give that man any more of my money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Graham, You've obviously had similar experiance's as myself & seemingly several others, makes you wnder how they keep going, guess they must keep some customers happy, my problems with them date back many years & I remember saying at the time "they'll not last long with servicelike that !"

On a different note I sent you some pics via email but haven't heard back from you so wondering if you've received them ok ? Let me know if you haven't & I'll try again.

Hi Tim,

No photos as of yet. I've sent you an alternative email address so maybe that will help! Thanks for the effort though!!!

As this is a useful forum, ill refrain from launching into a full blown rant about Mr Emery and his clan of inbred retards as i dont want to get banned (to the mods : this is purely my opinion based on recent experience and in no way implicates the Norton Owners club). Suffice to say i wouldnt be sorry to see him disappear of the map.
