Laydown gearbox spares

Forums

Hi All. I just wanted to know where I could some spare parts fora "laydown" gearbox please?

Items required are the mainshaft 1/4" rollers. Main (sleeve) bearingoil shield disc, footchange and kickstart springs etc.

Also, to save me some time researching and hunting around, what are the modern (Fag or SKF) equivalents of the main bearings (Large and Small) and layshaft bearings please. Oh yes has anyone tried a shielded bearing in the main (sleeve) bearing position for additional sealing?

Many thanks for any assistance.

Les

PS I can't find any of thoseparts at RGM and Norvil, and I have done some web searching with no results.

Dear LP, All the laydown bearings are the same sizes as AMC equivalents. , and yes everyone uses shielded or sealed bearings in an attempt to keep some of the oil inside the box.The hard parts to find are good gears, stocks of ex army gears seem to have just about run out .AMC gears can be used in some places, but not others. Regards John.

Thanks John. Although I have rebuilt several AMC boxes this is my first laydown type and wasn't surethat they were the same. Searching around for infoI did find this site:

http://www.nocnsw.org.au/bearings.html

So I can search for the bearings now, althoughmy problem is now getting the clutch side layshaft bearing out. Even heating the case to over 200 C andslamming it down so hard as nearly to crack the case, it refuses to budge. I will have to either leave it in or try to find a garage with a bearing puller to borrow. I did consider drilling a hole through the case to push it out....no only kidding.....bet someone has though.

Thanks again John

Les

PS, after further searching, I have found that RGM and Norvil do sell most of the bitsI want, but its nice to have an alternative bearing source once you know the bearing type.

Just to say. I have now removed the layshaft ball bearing.I made up a tool to do it (hot) . So no need for any more replies to this one (was that tongue in cheek?)

I rather fear that everyone will become bored with reading my comments as there are so few posters on most threads, without me confirming that beyond getting down on my knees on a plank on the patio and flailing around like a beserk fundamentalist with a hot case in my hands, I don't know what to do either !

If the Laydown is the same as the Doll's Head in this respect, the 'pen steel' sealing washer doesn't have any dimensional function as it sits in a recess behind the bearing. I think that it can safely be omitted when using a sealed bearing. It's going to leak somewhere. It's just a question of where !
