Private equity has bought most of the main players including Carol Nash, one of the last independent s is Peter James Insurance, he started Footman James before selling out.

I have a number of bikes insured with RH Specialist Insurance.

I have quite a few bikes from 1935 through to 1996 and their premium is very good. Certainly substantially cheaper than Carole Nash who I used to be insured with. I have some bikes on Fully Comprehensive and others on Accidental Damage Fire and Theft.

Their website is rhspecialistinsurance.co.uk

Alternatively you can speak to them on 02038245200 or 03330433911.

Try and agree a buy back clause - conveniently with classic prices as they are nearly all don't, thus if you crash it and they consider it BER then they will own the bike and you will not able to buy it back. They do this so they can reduce their limit of loss - do the maths, there could be the possibility that the un-damaged parts are worth more in spares than the cost ratio of repairing the bike enabling them to recoup much of their payout.

This came about when I was restricted on my policy from Carole Nash due to my employment. they would not even discuss the possibility of buy back and avoiding CAT C / D in the event of a claim.

I recommend Petbreakdown cover.er James as well. £90 or so for my ES2 and Guzzi V50 with agreed values of £8,500 the pair. Includes full UK / EU

After 30+ years with Carol Nash Insurance and loosing the will to live getting quotes from some so called specialists who ask the most ridiculous questions on every Norton that I need insurance for such as.......âis it a diesel?â and âIâve never heard of a P11 Nortonâ so I will have to refer to the underwriters.

I tried Hagerty for the first time. They are polite, knowledgeable, hassle free and beat my last insurance quote by £50. It only took 15 minutes, the info was sent immediately. Canât ask for more. Well worth a try.
