How to measure cam bush wear?

Forums

What is the accepted way to measure cam bush wear? I assume a dial indicator on the cam shaft with the cam installed in the cases, but cant find what amount of clearance is acceptable. Or do I measure the bearing area of the cam and subtract that measurement from the diameter of the bush inside diameter? Again I don't know what therecommendedclearance is?

Hello Eugene The only way of measuring the in side of a bush is by a internal dial gauge yours anna j

I have a complete machine shop at my disposal so I can use an inside micrometer, or go old school and use a pair of inside calipers, the measure the calipers with a micrometer, I have access to a complete set of go/no go gages which is a cylindrical tool with one end slightly larger outside diameter so if the hole you are checking is the correct size, the "go" end will fit & the opposite end "no go" should not fit.

Measuring the diameter of the bush opening is no problem, but I can't seem to locate the correct clearance measurement between the cam and the bush, I am guessing .005 (5 thousandths of an inch), but I would think there is afactoryrecommendedclearance listed someplace? God I hope I don't have to replace & line hone a new set of bushes?
