Holy rattling backplates Batman....

Forums

Hiya fellow Nortonians, can anyone advise me please? My recent rebuild has been a success so far, the Mikuni single-carb conversion has been a revelation and transformed my Mk3 into a rocket! However there is one major niggle. Occasionally this evening whilst stomping around the Wirral, there's an awful squawking coming from the rear end. Everything is tight but there is a rattle from within the rear hub and I think it may be the cushdrive backplate.

Is there any knowledgeable tipster out there who can help me with ideas of how to shut the thing up?

Muchas muckers.

Peter.

My Mk3 had a similar problem. When I recently replaced the wheel bearings, I removed the cush drive and rubbers, and when replacing the rubbers I made sure that they were in deep enough to press against the backplate (and also put some copperslip on the inner face of the backplate.)

Result, no rattle (so far, at least!)
