Handle bar Mirrors

Forums

Hi.
I've tried several types of handlebar mounted mirrors on my Mk3 Commando and each time all I get is a good look at my elbows!
Has anyone got a type or make of mirror they can recommend that gives a clear view of traffic behind? I can convert from the standard 3/8" UNF fixing to either 8 or 10mm so can use a wide range of "After Market" mirrors but none seem to be long enough to clear the riders body parts.
Bar end fixings can obscure the clutch lever sometimes and also prevent a free twist grip movement. Also I don't think they suite the Commando. (I do have them fitted to other older bikes)
Your advice and comments welcome.
Thanks.

I've fitted a bar-end mirror once and had the same problem. However, when I flipped the mirror, placing it under, instead of above the grip, I could finally see behind me.

That might be a solution for you. Just watch that it doesn't hit the tank. It looks better on inverted handlebars/clip-ons than it does on a high steering bar though.

Hi Peter, I would keep the standard threads and look for a 20mm mirror that suits your purpose then cut the tread down to 3/8 unf so it will screw directly into your standard fittings, that's what I did as pictured.

Should be 10mm thread, predictive typing. ?

... make some mirror extenders as I've done on various Japane machines. If yyou have a lathe, it's easy to make an internal 10mm (or as required) thread in a bit of round alloy 1/2" OD. With a cut down m10 bolt in one end. Alternatively, a long M4 bolt with a round bobbin spacer, a length of 1/2"x1/4" flat alloy bar clearance drilled one end and threaded 10mm the other.

The former on a Guzzi _ can't find a pic of version 2.....

Thanks chaps for the response.
I managed to find a set of "Evomosa" mirrors on Amazon. (I hate that site but had to use up a gift voucher!)
These are similar to Graham's and can be adjusted to protrude horizontally. If I need to extend them there is a convenient joint I can make a spacer, similar to what Ian has done.
When the weather breaks I'll take the bike for a test ride and adjust accordingly.
Thanks once again.
Peter
