Gold paint for pinstripes

Forums

I have a Mk1 850 Interstate to which I have just fitted a new old stock black and gold fuel tank.

The tank’s paintwork is generally good and unfaded. Unfortunately a small strip of pinstriping has flaked off. It is only about 3/8” long but very noticeable.

I wondered whether anybody could firstly indicate what is the correct gold colour and secondly where i might buy it in a modest quantity ?

Thanks,

Alan

I'd experiment with fine masking tape and Humbrol enamel. If you don't like the colour match you can wipe it off with white spirit.  Or try some on a biscuit tin...but the background colour might affect the result.

Just an idea, I had my black Interstate tanks resprayed some years ago and then applied the pinstriping with gold pinstripe tape (available from Halfords, eBay etc. these days) - it was easy to apply and 'fiddle with' to get it straight and looking correct and lasted well without fading, it didn't peel either ... .

Sunbeam... Francis Barnett and it was fine although didn't like tight bends. I've also used the 3M masking tape and gold paint on my Sunbeam but the stuff I used washed off. Can't remember what it was.....

I have had success using 1 Shot signwriters paint. I mask the sides with narrow tape sold by paint suppliers (not ordinary masking tape). The 1Shot is then very forgiving when you put the next brush full on. The trick is then to pull off the tape after the paint is setting but before completely dry, otherwise you get a ragged edge. I suggest a trial tun on a bit of scrap metal.

.. One Shot for the black & red lines on my Norton but didn't know they did gold. The black and red do seem fairly fuel resistant although I quickly wipe off any spills. I do know that ordinary coach enamel (Tekaloid, Paragon etc) isn't resistant to more than a quick splash.
