Getting paintwork done

Forums

Evening folks.

I know it is difficult finding good craftsmen these days but I have stumbled across a chap in North Devon who is a wizard with the spray gun. He painted a "99" for me last year - 66 pieces and none lost. The bike was in fair condition but the weather was too cold for me to paint it inthe shed so I bit the bullet and got some body else to do it. The paintwork is excellent , perhaps better than new.

I have just picked up a 650SS from him. It went to him a sad, rusty mess having been lying in a cow shed for 30 years. All the dents have gone, the rust removed and the results perfect. He does his own blasting, priming etc and any welding if required.

If you want an excellent job at a reasonable price give Vince a ring on 01769 574698. He operates in South Molton, North Devon.

I have no connection with this firm other than being a customer highly impressed with the quality of his work.

Cheers Mick

Thanks for the info Mick, Anna itdoesn'tmatter what colour it is, its the finish that matters, and its quite obvious that Mick is very satisfied and has had the good manners to pass this info on to those of us who do care.

Fingers are just starting to function after a day out trialing in the Peak District, very pretty in the snow but the wind like daggers , more brass monkeys than you could wave a stick at.

I agree Paul it's the finish that counts then you can chose any colour you like! Very useful info Mick, from the look of Ann's paint job on the tank etc of her bike she could do with getting in touch with a good painter!

Anna, there are 50 shades of black! Or am I confusing it with grey?

This shows the bike get ridden and is Not some Show ornament or and garage hugger as for a good painter I Am a good painter so there no need for someone else to do it anyway I would not trust them anyway, I seen the result for what men can do there making a big mess of this planet, for instance !

Steady now Anna I can think of a certain lady who totally knackered up this county right good and proper, hence no coal, no railway manufacture, no steel works, We are just a country full of Bankers, empty business parks, warehouses and callcentres, hence no skilled workers andapprenticeships, that'swhy when we here from other members of good skilled persons it is good to here.

No one is doubting your ample skills but wewe are not all painted with the same camel haired brush, that'swhat makes us all different and unique.

Paul.

Yes Paul, we all know what you mean. This was supposed to be about paint and finish etc, somehow Anne has turned this into an argument against men as she does quite often. I bet I'm not the only one on here who is fed up with this "I'm a Lady" thing!

Hello Paul Yes I do agree With You On This Point , But this Lady was a Shop keeper, And Not a Engineer like me. She Had something against Unions Big time, And it was a Big Union Man that played right into her hands he did not use his brains but his bullish ways to get what he wanted. but it all went pearshaped for him and the unions, And I have nothing against Men ,I have worked with them and you cannot paint them all with the same brush .there are some very good men out there and its not a Lady thing ether ,I am Not like that, its all down to the word trust. witch means a lot to me. yours anna j

Anna, The Lady was a research chemist with a degree from Oxford and is a Fellow of the Royal Society. Her father was a grocer.

Evening folks.

I did not realise a simple recommendation would turn into a dialogue about the equalities of people, about unions or anything else other than paintwork.

The first bike I had done was a red "99" using the paint code for the Post Office red I first used in 1970 when I restored the bike. The 650SS has been done in black with the petrol tank in Ford silver fox which looks fine to me. From other work he has done on modern cars and 1950's motor bikes I do not see that the colour of the paint will present any problems

Anyway if you feel like speaking to Vince I am sure he will be helpful and reasonably priced.

Keep riding safely, if it is too cold in the shed put some thermals on and take the bike out. Cheers Mick

Being new to this forum I was wondering ifthe club has any form of 'recommended suppliers' list? I appreciate that it could only be on the basis of personal recommendation and not a club endorsement but recommendations based on members' experience are worth their weight in gold.

Hi Colin, the club website does indeed have a supplier list. if you click on the "services " tab on the left hand side of this screen it will open out into a list of suppliers that have been put forward by your fellow members. just choose which service you require and you should get a list of suppliers that have been suggested by someone.

Cheers Big Alan, Shenstone branch sec.
