I was photographing my Vin and engine numbers for a factory record certificate and notice a G on the gearbox after the numbers

A few more clues might help solve your mystery suffix.

Can you give a few more details about your bike? Engine number, Model, etc. Do all the numbers match? In the UK some race bike tuners used to stamp crankcases and gearbox cases with their initials or sometimes just single letters to signify a modification. Any chance of a photo of the numbers and letter?

200530 has a 'Y' where yours has a 'G'. I'm not aware of any significance. Possibly just a casting matching or maybe an assembler code. It will take a lot more observation to work out if there is a pattern.

Just to add to the data, my 750 Roadster has matching engine, frame and gearbox numbers and the gearbox has the letter L after the number.

My spare Commando gearbox; No. 209513 also has the letter L after the number.
