Gearbox not shifting after assembly

Forums

I have just taken my fatherscommandoand removed the outer gearbox cover to reseal thekick startshaft, and upon reassembly i can go through the gears until i reach 4th then it locks in 4th, i have the bike on its center stand so i may spin the wheel freely to keep from locking thegears, what may be the problem.

When you say it locks in 4th are you saying the lever won't move or won't change gear? If the latter I'd take a look at the pawl spring which could have been damaged or displaced. It's difficult to displace it if this part of the mech has not been stripped but just in case. Have a look at the clearance between the spring fingers and the pawl. There should be just enough clearance to rock the pawl slightly, hardly any gap at all but the pawl must not be held tight by the spring either.

While you have the cover off again operate the quadrant manually just in case there is some other issue inside the box with selector plate etc. If you are careful a bar placed between the quadrant fork and inner cover opening will lever the quadrant up and down.

Yes that is exactly what i mean, i will take a look later today

Which? lever won't move or won't change gear? Have a look at this site http://www.oldbritts.com/ob_start.htmland go to Tech articles - Engine, gearbox etc and then how gearbox works and how to rebuild. Well described and lots of clear pics. Best of luck.
